JULIAN DIAZ

Director • Actor • Producer

About

Julian Diaz is a Mexican-Caucasian mestizo and queer director, actor, and producer dedicated to telling stories that reveal the injustice of modern social contracts and advocate for a more humanistic future. Currently serving as the Assistant Production Manager at La Jolla Playhouse, Julian bridges the "nuts and bolts" of LORT theatre administration with a deep-seated passion for developing new work and re-envisioning classics.

His recent directorial work includes critically acclaimed productions of The Laramie Project and The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later. These community-based ensemble projects were recognized with Mayoral Recognition from the City of San Diego and the Dennis and Judy Shepard Family Values Award. Julian has further honed his craft through directorial observation at La Jolla Playhouse and The Old Globe, gaining insight into the development of compelling productions ranging from cutting edge new plays to world premiere commercial musicals.

As an actor, Julian’s credits span the country’s leading regional stages, including Cleveland Play House, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and North Coast Repertory Theatre . A member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA, his screen credits include Days of Our Lives and the web series Your Server is Not Out to Get You, which he also wrote and produced.

Julian is a graduate of UCLA and has trained extensively at the Howard Fine and Black Box acting studios.

When he isn’t in the rehearsal room or the production office, Julian is a passionate advocate for animal rescue and an undying stan for Lady Gaga.
